What makes you laugh?
There are so many things that make me laugh that I could write ✍️ about them forever! For starters, funny animal videos are near the top of my list. Among the ones that make me laugh 😂 to the point of tears are raccoon 🦝 antics. Some of the best videos of raccoons are on Pinterest, although I’ve seen some hilarious ones on YouTube too.
Three of the most memorable ones are two raccoons splashing in a child’s backyard wading pool (no children present) another one shows about ten fat raccoons 🦝 climbing up and going down a children’s playground slide 🛝 (also no children in sight) and the third video showed a cat 🐈⬛ and raccoon facing off – and the cat chased him off the back deck of a house, down the steps and then presumably off camera where the raccoon 🦝 scampers off into the woods.
Since I enjoy reading 📖 a great deal, I’ll be perusing the staff picks at my local library 📚 branch and burst out laughing when I see a funny and provocative title like I Hope They Serve Beer 🍺 In Hell or The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F**k. When I see things like that I start suffering from B.L.P.S. (Belly Laughs Per Second) and all this before even reading the synopsis! Anything irreverent is great for tickling my funny bone and will usually keep me in a good mood for the rest of the day.
There are innumerable movies 🎥 that make me laugh as well, like with most people. However, some of the most amusing ones are those which were unintentionally hilarious such as the infamous Mommie Dearest (1981). Adapted from the bestselling 1978 tell-all memoir of the same title by her adopted daughter Christina, the film version was supposed to be the dramatic, scandalous account of Hollywood’s Golden Age film star Joan Crawford (1906-1977). According to her daughter, Crawford was an unpredictable emotionally and physically abusive alcoholic – who caused havoc in her children’s lives.
This is NOT to suggest that child abuse is amusing in any way. However, the movie has to be seen to understand what I’m getting at. The acting 🎭 was so shrill and over-the-top (see it to believe it!) that the film was not a sober, cautionary tale about childhood suffering but instantly became an outrageous camp classic. Other movies that make me laugh are the ones that play into my own neurotic fears about aging and death. The best of these would be Death Becomes Her (1992) a fascinatingly grotesque black comedy about two outrageous rivals (Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn) competing for the love of an acclaimed plastic surgeon (Bruce Willis).
They drink a magic potion promising the proverbial “fountain of youth” but which naturally results in unintended consequences – the final sequence was so horrifying it was actually too hilarious (no spoilers here!) However, when I just want to dump my brain 🧠 completely the Cartoon Network and (maybe a couple cocktails 🍸added) is the best things for hoots of laughter. The old-school cartoons like 👍 Tom & Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny 🐰 & Wily E.Coyote, Porky 🐷 Pig, Yosemite Sam, Warner Brothers Merrie Melodies etc. are the best prescription for laughter!
