Murals depicting vintage advertisements from the days when Vista was known as “The Avocado Capital Of The World”

Vista is one of those pleasant, small cities with a delightful Mediterranean climate only seven miles from the coast, in northwestern San Diego County. For many decades from the 1880s through the 1950s the Vista region was primarily agricultural, and became known as the “Avocado Capital Of The World” in 1948. Today, the city is well-known for its close proximity to Southern California beaches and as a family recreation center.

My favorite sculpture in downtown Vista. I haven’t seen though, if it’s eyes glow in the dark!

While The Wave WaterPark and Boomers Vista Amusement Park are popular family activities around town, for those who might enjoy more sedate experiences a stroll through downtown can be a relaxing experience. Vista’s Civic Center Drive is a popular gathering spot due to a good selection of restaurants and places to shop. Downtown also has a number of fun, capricious sculptures along with colorful murals representing Vista’s rich agricultural heritage. Some of them are pictured here.

A top-hatted sculpture tending a shrub!
Kicking back, enjoying a perfect afternoon 😀

Other murals to see include the impressive 562-foot long creation by Clayton Parker, “Journey Through Time” depicting the history of Vista beginning with the Native Americans who originally lived here. It also celebrates the famous “Vistacado” Parades of the past which centered on the town’s most famous product – the avocado 🥑😁 🥑!! After a pleasing excursion through Vista, there’s still time to hit the beach 🏖!

Inviting stretch of pristine sand at Robert Frazee Beach at Carlsbad, CA. down the road from Vista before the crowds arrive.

A good beach to check out is the Robert Frazee State Beach just nine miles down the road in Carlsbad for a dip in the surf or to lay back for a bit and catch some rays. Enjoy!
