What makes you nervous?
First of all, I break down the things that make me nervous into two categories. Some things make me nervous because they’re frightening and others tend to make me really angry. Among the things that make me agitated because it’s frightening are gunshots in the middle of the night (and I know from the sound that it’s happening only a couple of blocks from my community). In a related situation, the police helicopters 🚁 constantly circling over and around my community while I’m trying to watch tv 📺 or quietly read a book 📖 (because they’re searching for criminals) makes me nervous to the point anger if it happens more than a couple times per week!
Any unexpected, loud noises like a car backfiring frays my nerves too. This is scary because I’m not always sure right away if it’s gunfire or not. Having to think about that usually works my nerves for a couple minutes! Roaring engines caused by irresponsible drivers drag racing on the main road near my house —is another thing makes me nervous and then angry 😤! Something else that makes me nervous is always watching for rattlesnakes while hiking 🥾or during a nature walk. While I’ve never seen one yet (after living in Arizona for 29 years) it’s still one of my phobias that makes me nervous in a frightened way.
Another thing that puts my nervous system on alert is swimming. As much as I enjoy the beach 🏖️ I’m always worried about being carried off by a current, or encountering sharks 🦈. Yeah, these things are definitely scary possibilities, but I still love going to the beach anyways, but usually stick close by the shore. The two other things that cause me a nervous 😟 condition are driving and flying. I hate heavy traffic and commuting, so that’s one of the upsides of working at home. Being stuck in traffic is somewhat like being caught up in a large crowd and is a nerve grating in the angry sense.
Flying ✈️ is something I avoid as much as possible. Being 37,000 ft. in the air definitely gives me the jitters, to say the least. When it’s absolutely necessary to fly — I’ll always take a sedative prior to boarding but still feel my entire body stiffening with nervous fright during take-off and landing. Another thing that always made me really nervous and frightened as a child was gas ⛽️ stoves. Even though nothing bad ever happened —that whoosh sound always made me jump when my mother struck a match to restart the pilot light! Now that I’ve shared my nervous phobias, I’ll want to read other responses to this prompt to see how other people’s nervous conditions compare to mine! 😂😂
