The present day Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has been an integral part of downtown Phoenix since 1920 and is well known for its support of the local art community. Trinity hosts year-round exhibits at its Olney Gallery which is attached to the cathedral. Since April is Easter month the gallery is now hosting one of the most fascinating exhibits that I’ve seen here in nearly two years. The artworks now on display are vibrant embroidery pieces created by migrants trying to escape violence and other perils in Central America.
The following plaque describes the precarious situation these women find themselves in while they try to occupy their time and still create compelling, gorgeous embroideries incorporating many of the bright, cheerful colors associated with the Easter season.
